Records fall at OFSAA track championships

In spite of the wild weather in Brockville, Ont., records fell at the OFSAA track and field championships this weekend.

Windsor area stand-out Brandon McBride continued to dominate at both the 400m and 800m distances and took first place in both. Carter Day, also of Windsor (Sandwich Secondary), also took the double win in both the 400m and 800m on the junior men’s side.

Yves Sikubwabo won the senior men’s 1500m, but narrowly missed the double victory with a second place in the 3000m, behind Port Hope’s Jeremy Coughler.

Muhumed Sirage of Montcalm also doubled up for wins in the 1500m and 3000m on the junior side, setting the O.F.S.A.A. record in the 3000m with a 8:54.26. London Central’s Charlotte Prouse also was victorious in both the midget 1500m and 3000m.

Emma Galbraith of Franco Ouest pulled off the rare feat in winning both the senior women’s 800m and 1500m.

Kailee Sawyer of Bluevale also established the new O.F.S.A.A. record in the midget women’s 800m, in a time of 2:09.58.
