Gary Reed, of Kamloops, BC, one of Canada’s medal hopes at the world track and field championships, failed to make the final of the 800m, Friday in Berlin.

Reed finished fourth in his semi-final in a time of one minute and 45.60 seconds. Only the top two finishers, plus the next two fastest times of the three semi-finals qualified for Sunday’s final.

Reed appeared to get boxed in with 150m remaining, and wasn’t able to make up any ground on the leaders in the finishing straight.

Reed was a silver medallist at the 2007 world championships, and finished fourth at the Beijing Olympics.

Canada has one medal, a silver by Priscilla Lopes-Schliep in the 100m hurdles, at this year’s world championships.
