The unusual record is currently held by American ultra runner Mike Wardian, who set it earlier this year.

The American-based Lemoncello is attempting the record in order to raise money for the National Down Syndrome Society. “Our daughter Isla was born with Down Syndrome and her determination and strength has inspired me to use my running as a way to bring awareness to the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS),” Lemoncello told Athletics Weekly.

Lemoncello has a previous best time of 63:03, and ran  a 30:18 10K earlier this month on the roads in Edinbrugh. Before attempting the treadmill world record, he will go up against the likes of Haile Gebrselassie on Oct. 6 at the Great Scottish Run.

His treadmill feat will take place at the Chandler Fashion Mall in Phoenix. He hopes to raise $10,000 for charity.
