Tragedy has struck the family of one of the fastest men on Earth. U.S. 100m runner Tyson Gay’s 15-year-old daughter, Trinity Gay, was hit in the neck by a bullet and later died at a local hospital in Lexington, Kent.

Gay is originally from Lexington. “She didn’t make it,” he told a local TV station. “I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened.”

Local police report that at 4:00 a.m. local time shots were exchanged between two vehicles in a restaurant parking lot called Cook Out. There were few other details, but two people have been taken in for questioning by the police.

Gay ran the third leg of the 4x100m relay for the U.S. at the Rio Olympics in August. The team was disqualified after initially placing third, giving Canada the bronze.
