Weekend recap: April 25-26
The big news of the weekend was the London Marathon
Wrapping up the marathon majors for the spring, Eluid Kipchoge won the London Marathon in 2:04:42, taking down last year’s winner Wilson Kipsang and world record holder Dennis Kimetto. Tigist Tufawon the women’s race in 2:23:22 ahead of Mary Keitany.
The day also saw Paula Radcliffe run her final marathon on a course where she set the women’s world record. She finished Sunday in 2:36:55.
Banque Scotia 21K de Montreal
Eric Gillis won the half-marathon again in 1:05:27, continuing his winning steak this spring. Bianca Premont ran 1:20:35 to win the women’s race.
The event, which is one of Montreal’s most popular road races, raised over $1 million this year for a variety of charities. The course loops around Montreal’s islands, showing on beautiful views of the city.
Balanse Bum Run
Toronto’s run to raise awareness about colon cancer shows off the city’s downtown core in a race through the streets Sunday. Canadian Running columnist Alex Hutchinson set a new course record of 16:11.

TC 10K sees big turnout
Victoria’s Times Colonist 10K saw over 10,000 runners take to the streets of B.C.’s capital city. The same runner won the women’s race for the third year in a row. Jane Murage won in 33:07 while Vancouver’s Kelly Wiebe won the men’s race, running 29:08.
