Whitfield to join elite field at cross-country nationals

Double Olympic medallist Simon Whitfield has confirmed that he’ll compete at the 2009 AGSI Canadian cross-country championships Nov. 28, in Guelph, Ont.

Whitfield is one of the top triathletes in the world. He won a silver medal in the event at the 2008 Olympics, to go along with the gold medal he claimed at the 2000 Games.

He’ll be in tough at the national cross-country championships, competing against seven-time winner Simon Bairu of Regina. Guelph’s Speed River track club also boasts some top talent, including 2007 champion Reid Coolsaet, 2008 silver medallist Rob Watson, and 2008 Olympian Eric Gillis.
