Whitlock sets new 80-84 marathon world record in Rotterdam

Ed Whitlock runs 3:25.43 to crush previous 80-84 world record at Rotterdam marathon.

Canada’s Ed Whitlock set a new marathon world record in the 80-84 age group in Rotterdam on Sunday, April 10. Whitlock’s time of 3:25.43 crushed the previous record of 3:39.18 set by Australia’s Robert Horman in 1998. We’ll be watching for Ed this Fall at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, where he hopes to lower that record even further.

At the front of the Rotterdam race, Kenyan Wilson Chebet made a strong bid to beat Haile Gebrselassie’s world record, but warm and windy conditions forced him to slow over the second half. Even so, he finished in an outstanding time of 2:05.27.
