VIDEO: Usain Bolt’s final home race in Jamaica

It was a night of celebration at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica as Usain Bolt, the eight-time Olympic champion, raced his final 100m in his home country.

The 30-year-old, who holds the world record in the 100m, 200m and partially in the 4x100m, ran 10.03 to win the JN Racers Grand Prix on Saturday night in front of a packed stadium of 30,000 fans. The race marked another step towards Bolt’s soon-to-be retirement after the 2017 IAAF World Championships in August.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been that nervous running a 100m,” Bolt said after the race before kissing the finish line and doing his signature lightning bolt pose. The time was well-off Bolt’s 100m world record of 9.58.

Fittingly, Bolt’s time on Saturday, 10.03, is identical to the time the Jamaican ran in his first professional 100m, all the way back in 2007. Bolt has competed at four Olympics, dating back to the 2004 Games in Athens. He achieved the triple-triple during his career, winning three gold medals in three successive Olympic Games. However, a positive drug test by teammate Nesta Carter led Bolt to hand back his 4x100m relay gold from 2008.

Other stars who competed at the Grand Prix on Saturday include Allyson Felix, Mo Farah, Wayde Van Niekerk and David Rudisha, all of who are Olympic champions in their respective disciplines. Bolt’s 100m time was not the fastest of the competition as Yohan Blake ran 9.97 in an earlier heat.

Throughout his career, Bolt has been near-unbeatable and has risen the ranks to become one of the biggest names in all of sport. Since the 2008 Olympics, Bolt has lost just one individual race at the global championships level. He false started and was disqualified in the 100m at the 2011 IAAF World Championships.
