This weekend, two prominent Vancouver races paired up for the ultimate west coast running event. Rock ‘n’ Roll Vancouver Half-Marathon and the Cunningham Seawall 10K collaborated for a two-day race weekend giving athletes and spectators a double dose of excitement.
Going into the half-marathon, Paul Kimugul was the pre-race favourite. He was expected to run a strong race in Vancouver and place first among the elite men. He didn’t disappoint this weekend landing himself right at the front of the pack with a 1:05:25 finishing time.
Second to him was Canadian runner Kelly Wiebe from Vancouver. Wiebe finished running a 1:05:49 well ahead of Bernard Ngeno who made it to the finish in 1:07:30.

As for the women’s race, one of Canada’s favourite runners Natasha Wodak placed first with a time of 1:18:58. Wodak’s presence was a surprise to some as it was not confirmed on Friday whether she would race or pace at the event. Second to her was Jane Ricardi (1:20:02) and Sabrina Wilkie in third running 1:21:05.
What’s cooler than @tasha_wodak winning @RunRocknRoll #RnRVAN today? Her mom is out volunteering at the finish line! pic.twitter.com/HdBSFWSTxR

The Cunningham Seawall 10K took place on Saturday. Now 45 years strong, this race doesn’t seem to be losing momentum any time soon. Geoff Martinson and Kim Doerksen were the champions of the men’s and women’s races running a 29:50 and 36:29 respectively (Check out what this speedy woman has been using for fuel this week!).

This weekend saw about 9,500 runners participate in both events combined. Those who raced got to enjoy mountain views, ocean air and a taste of the Seawall and Stanley Park.
The #RnRVAN 1/2 Marathon was quite scenic this morning. And that’s an understatement. pic.twitter.com/DLZANH3k7Z
