Justyn Knight won an individual NCAA title on the track for the first time in his collegiate career.
The Syracuse University student from Toronto won the men’s 5,000m at the NCAA Division One Track and Field Championships on Friday. His winning time in College Station, Texas (home of Texas A&M University) was 14:14.47.
The indoor title is not Knight’s first as a NCAA athlete. In November, he won the NCAA D1 Cross-Country Championships, months after qualifying for the men’s 5,000m final at the IAAF World Championships, the highest level of track and field.
In the same race on Friday, Canadians Mike Tate (Southern Utah) and Rory Linkletter (Brigham Young) finished fourth and sixth, respectively.
