It’s a girl! Melissa Bishop-Nriagu’s baby born July 2

Olympian 800m specialist Melissa Bishop-Nriagu and her husband, Osi Nriagu, welcomed the birth of Corinne Chidera on Monday

Earlier today Canadian 800m record-holder and two-time Olympian Melissa Bishop-Nriagu and her husband, Osi Nriagu announced the birth of their first baby, Corinne Chidera, at 8:29 a.m. on Monday, July 2. 

Bishop-Nriagu’s Twitter and Instagram accounts included several photos of the newborn. She says, “We are so damn excited! Our world & hearts just exploded with love.”

The couple announced they were surprised and delighted by the pregnancy earlier this year.

The CBC ran a revealing interview with Bishop-Nriagu earlier this spring, in which she speculates on her return to competition and plans for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

The Nriagus married in October 2017 following the Canadian 800m record-holder’s track season, in which she placed fifth at the IAAF World Championships in London. She won world silver in 2015 and is a two-time Olympian, with a Games best result of fourth, which she raced to at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The 2015 Pan Am Games gold medallist holds the national record in the 800m outdoors (1:57.01) and indoors (2:00.19).
