Check out the Nike 4% spikes that Gwen Jorgensen wore at USATF Championships

Nike made a specialty race shoe for the triathlete-turned-runner that she wore at the USATF Championships on Thursday during the 10,000m

At first glance, the shoes pictured in Gwen Jorgensen’s race day Instagram look like any other Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4%. But upon further examination, you can notice the 5mm spikes and jagged plate toward the front of the outsole.

Nike made a specialty race shoe for the triathlete-turned-runner that she wore at the USATF Championships on Thursday during the 10,000m. Jorgensen has dealt with achilles tendon issues, and was looking for spikes with a higher heel drop and a little more support.

The Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% pairs a ZoomX midsole with a full length carbon plate. Together these features can make a runner up to 4% more efficient than Nike’s previous fastest marathon shoe.

Jorgensen finished seventh in the 10,000m on Thursday in a time of 32:24.

She posted on Instagram post-race saying, “You never come into a race hoping for seventh, but that’s where I finished tonight at the USATF Championships. I was disappointed with my result today, but I will continue to keep pounding the track.”

Molly Huddle was the winner of the 10,000m. Huddle ran an extremely impressive race, leading start to finish and closing in a 4:38 mile.
