The upper
The Velociti 3 features a comfortable flat-knit upper that provides dynamic stretch, compression, containment and breathability where you need it. The reinforced heel in combination with the UA Flow foam offer enhanced lockdown at heel strike, ensuring a stable and supportive fit throughout your run, no matter the distance.
To further enhance your ride, the newly designed winged tongue has additional foam to eliminate pressure on the top of your foot. I found that the tongue and lacing of the previous version gave me a lot of metatarsal pressure, which is not an issue at all in the new Velociti. The EVA sockliner also lets your forefoot move naturally and provides extra support.
The midsole
The standout feature of the Velociti 3 is its cushioned, yet firm, Flow midsole. Softer and lighter than its predecessors, the Flow midsole technology offers responsive and long-lasting cushioning. Under Armour listened to its consumers and created a multi-purpose training shoe for the long haul. At first, I found the shoe quite stiff and firm, but the more I ran in it, I found the midsole only got softer.
Coming in at only 250 grams for a men’s US 9, the shoe is ideal for long runs, tempos, short intervals and everything in between. I found the midsole had well-cushioned landings and explosive takeoffs, helping maintain speed.
The outsole
The outsole of the Velociti 3 is uniquely shaped to minimize bulk and increase speed without compromising on traction and durability. You’ll enjoy a responsive and smooth ride while confidently tackling various terrains. What sets it apart from its competition is that there is no rubber on the outsole, resulting in a more lightweight and seamless ride on any surface. You’ll experience a smooth and natural footstrike, while the super-durable and grippy outsole pattern ensures traction and stability.
The verdict
In summary, the Under Armour Velociti 3 is a versatile and cushioned shoe perfect for neutral runners seeking a training shoe that does everything quite well. This shoe would be great for someone training for their first 10K or an upcoming half-marathon and who isn’t looking to spend too much. With lightweight and rubberless cushioning, a comfortable knit upper, reinforced heel construction and a durable outsole, the Flow Velociti 3 provides a premium running experience from the first kilometre to the last.
