Adidas announces Futurecraft Series 3D printed shoes

adidas futurecraftToday, Adidas released this gorgeous video signalling a new direction for the brand.

Their Futurecraft Series will use 3D printing technology to make what they call “bespoke” designs. The idea will be that runners will be able to walk into a store, jump on a treadmill wired to take readings about gate and foot-fall and walk away with a pair of entirely custom-made shoes.

Currently, this is all the news we have about this significant initiative. Adidas aren’t the first running brand to flirt with 3D printing technologies. A couple of years ago, New Balance constructed a pair of racing flats uniquely designed and made by this same technology for one of its track athletes.

The 3D printer at Brooks’ headquarters in Seattle reveals a prototype sole.

Earlier this year, we were given a tour of the Brooks headquarters in Seattle, which featured a 3D printer for in-house shoe concepts. But Adidas are the first company to openly declare that this technology is on its way to their consumers, which is very exciting news for all runners.
