For women runners savvy in the latest designs in athletic apparel, an online shopping session on the Adidas site is a jackpot.

The running shoe retailers have come out with a new shoe design sure to be successful with the gals– actually, it’s a girls-only model and its slick enough to be a favourite for trendy girls, women on the go and extremely fit running fanatics.

The new model, called the Women’s Pure Boost X, goes for $130 and is a lighter-weight option made with the brand’s famous Boost material. That technology, found in the sole, is designed with several small bubbles which absorb shock and release energy when the foot hits the ground.

The upper is an eye-catching navy and red-pink pairing constructed with breathable mesh to keep the toes ventilated (no sweat-logged socks post-run, finally). In the sea of bright pinks and purples that is the women’s active wear section, these ones are sure to stand out. The colour combo is interesting enough to make these an exciting pair, yet the navy base keep them toned down enough so as not to clash with printed gear or every day outfits. Aesthetically speaking, Adidas has done well with this model.

But the colour scheme and Boost material are not the only take-home design elements here. The Pure Boost X uses what Adidas terms the “floating arch.” That means that the arch has an almost sock-like construction and is not attached to the sole. It looks like a mini bridge for the foot.

That is a design that Adidas came up with after using motion tracking technologies to find a way to deliver better arch support. Why just for women? The brand is saying that in general, women have narrower feet with higher arches and so, there should be running shoes designed to better accommodate them.

Or, as Adidas says themselves on their site:

“The longer your runs, the more kilometres you log each week. And the longer you keep up your routine, the less you’re willing to put up with shoes created for a man.”
