On Tuesday, at the base of Toronto’s world-famous CN Tower, Canada Running Series unveiled the highly-anticipated medal for the 2023 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon, which will take place on Sunday, Oct 15. Hundreds of participants were on hand for the reveal, which served as a kick-off celebration for the upcoming marathon.

The 2023 marathon medal features the city’s most iconic landmark, the CN Tower—Canada’s tallest freestanding structure. The CN Tower also provided a breathtaking backdrop for the unveiling ceremony, adding to the excitement of the occasion.

“The marathon holds significant importance for Toronto, both locally and globally,” said Charlotte Brookes, the event director of the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon. “What better way to recognize this than to showcase our city’s most iconic landmark?”

The newly designed medals will be awarded to all 25,000 race finishers, with three variations based on the three distances associated with the race weekend. Toronto artist Inge Johnson (who is also a photographer for Canada Running Series) skillfully crafted the medals using recycled zinc metal. This choice reflects the marathon’s commitment to sustainability and positions it as a leading environmentally conscious event in Canada. The race’s dedication to sustainability is further exemplified by their recent Evergreen Certification from the Council for Responsible Sport.

This year’s race will not only host the 2023 Canadian Marathon Championships, but there will be Paris 2024 Olympic nomination spots up for grabs for the top Canadian male and female finishers.
