Berlin Marathon offers multiple options for registration

Due to increasing demand for a limited number of spots (capped at 40,000), registration for the 2016 Berlin Marathon will now offer a number of unique ways to secure a spot in the race.

Like in previous years, most spots will be awarded according to a random lottery where individuals must apply for a potential spot in the race. The application period will run from Mon. October 19th at 12:00 a.m. CET to November 1st. The results of the lottery will be announced between December 1-3. Those selected from the entry draw will be automatically entered and their credit cards will be charged.

New to 2016, individuals can also enter as part of a 2 to 3 person team. Teams will be randomly selected and if chosen, all members of the team will be granted a spot in the race. Note: You can not register both as an individual and as part of a team (if doing so, only the latter will be considered). This is a great way for (Canadian) families and friends to gain entry together.

Competitive runners may again gain automatic entry to the race by meeting time qualifiers run at a certified marathon finished within the past two years (2014/2015). The times for men and women are sub 2:45 and sub 3:00 respectively. Those aged 45 years and older can run under 2:55 and 3:20 for men and women respectively.

Those who are part of the Jubilee Club and who have finished the Berlin Marathon at least 10 times will also be given a special opportunity to register, starting early in 2016.

Additionally, a number of German and international tour operators will be granted a number of race spots as part of travel packages in which participants pay for airfare and accommodations. Finally, race spots will also be made available through select charity partners under the motto: “Running for a good cause”.

In all cases, the registration fee remains at 98 Euros (144 CAD). The 2016 event is set to take place on Sunday September 25th.
