What inspired you to run Boston?
When I ran my first marathon all my training partners were talking about the Boston marathon.  I hadn’t even really heard of Boston. It became a challenge to try to qualify.
What was your impression before you went?
I didn’t have any particular expectations though I was nervous and looking forward to the crowds and being part of race with such a long history.
Describe the scene before last year’s race.
I knew last year would be special. There was an incredible amount of support from spectators and the people of Boston.  There was such a sense of anticipation. The weather was nearly perfect, not too hot and not too cold. If I had one word to describe Boston 2014 it would be this: redemption. I felt like I had unfinished business after Boston 2013.
Any highlights or fond memories?
A fond memory of race weekend 2014: A race spectator approached me after the race and thanked me for participating, for supporting Boston. Boston has given me some of the best racing memories of my life, due in no small part to people like the race a spectator who approached me after the race.
What did you do afterwards?
My friends and I went to celebrate with dinner! But first, a nice shower and nap.
Did you have a favourite workout while training?
Yes! Long training runs in the north shore trails.
Any tough parts?
Yeah. I’d say there are definitely tough parts in training. Those would be your long training weeks and high mileage!
What’s your advice for those running the course?
Soak it in. Have fun! And don’t forget to save something for the Newton hills.
