On Friday, March 10, hundreds of stair climbers and fitness fanatics gathered at the top of the iconic Calgary Tower as the sun dipped below the skyline, for the highly anticipated annual medal and  T-shirt reveal. This year’s reveal was done in collaboration with the Calgary Tower’s 802 Challenge—a stair climb event that gives people the opportunity to climb the Calgary Tower; fittingly, the Calgary Tower also appears on the 2024 medals.

The 2024 medals are the culmination of the past five years that featured treasured Calgary landmarks and showcase beautifully detailed engravings of the Bow Building, Wonderland Sculpture, TELUS Sky, Calgary Tower and the Saddledome. In celebration of the Calgary Tower’s 60th Diamond Anniversary, each medal sports two shimmering “diamonds” for that extra dash of fancy. (They’re not real diamonds, but they sparkle like the real deal!)

Celebrating 60 years

Participants in the 2024 marathon will also receive ASICS poly tech shirts featuring the Run Calgary logo on the back along with “60 years running” to commemorate the very special milestone. Designed by the talented Marc Morin of Impello Inc., these shirts are a true testament to Calgary’s running legacy. With funky retro colours, and a design that brings to mind the movement of people through the city streets, the shirts are more than just running gear—they’re a celebration of 60 years of running history.

The 60th-anniversary logo, mirrored on the back of the shirt, resembles the lanes of a track and the crisscross of shoelaces, tying together the past, present and future of the Calgary Marathon. The retro colours of the race shirts give a subtle nod to the 60s and 70s, when the Calgary Marathon got its start, as a reminder of the rich history embedded in this race.
