At the USATF Half Marathon Championships on Saturday morning in Indianapolis, Ind., U.S. Olympian Emily Sisson clocked 67:11 to break Sara Hall’s U.S. half-marathon record by four seconds, which was set earlier this year.

Sisson started at the U.S. record pace, hitting 5 km in 15:54 and 10 km in 31:57. By 15 km, she had a five-minute lead on the chase pack. She went on to win the race by six minutes ahead of Andrea Pomaranski (1:13:12) and Allie Kieffer (1:13:16).

In her past two half-marathons, Sisson came within seconds of breaking the U.S. record in Valencia 2020 and Houston 2019, clocking 67:26 and 67:30. In 2019, Sisson had her first crack at the marathon, where she finished as the top American and sixth overall in 2:23:08 at the London Marathon.

In the men’s race, Leonard Korir won the U.S. men’s half marathon title by one second, after a tight battle with Futsum Zeinasellassie down the stretch.

The race came down to the final straight, as Korir and Zienasellassie were stride for stride. Korir charged ahead in the closing metres, besting his rival for the win in 1:02:35, one second ahead of Zienasellassie’s finishing time of 1:02:36 and giving the U.S. Army runner his third USATF half-marathon title. Jacob Thomson of Boston was third in 1:02:46.
