In a stunning display of athleticism at the Dutch Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, Femke Bol not only defended her national title but also broke her own world indoor 400m record, clocking 49.24. Returning to the same venue where she made history with a 49.26 just a year ago when she broke a 41-year-old record (at the time the longest-standing record in track and field), 23- year-old Bol once again left spectators in awe.

The Dutch sprint sensation kicked off her season in Metz, France with an impressive 49.69 in the same event, followed by a strong showing in Lievin (France), clocking 49.63. Bol showcased her prowess in the heats in the Netherlands on Saturday, securing a comfortable win with a time of 50.55 and giving a glimpse of the form she was in.

Bol dominated Sunday’s race, leading through the 200m mark. This achievement marks the sixth time in her career that Bol has dipped under 50 seconds indoors, solidifying her status as a force to be reckoned with on the track. Bol is also the world champion in the 400m hurdles and earned the bronze medal in the event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Post-race, Bol expressed her gratitude to the cheering home crowd, reported World Athletics. “It’s a dream come true to run another world record, and it’s wonderful to have all these Dutch fans enjoying the most beautiful sport in the world,” she said.

The world 400m hurdles champion’s extraordinary achievements have set the stage for her next challenge—the World Athletics indoor championships in Glasgow. Bol will be hungry for her first world indoor title, and will undoubtedly bring the same level of intensity and skill that has made her a global track sensation.
