Luke Doucet was a rock star on Saturday night and a runner the following morning at Ottawa Race Weekend.

The Whitehorse musician performed at Celebration Stage adjacent to Ottawa City Hall and 12 hours later, ran a sub-1:20 half-marathon on a warm morning in the nation’s capital. He ran 1:19:42 and was targeting a 1:17 performance finishing 19th overall among men. That’s an average pace of 3:47 per kilometre.

The 43-year-old Canadian musician and songwriter is an accomplished solo artist and currently tours with his wife Melissa McClelland as part of Whitehorse. The Halifax native, who is an avid runner, is a multiple-time Juno Awards nominee.

Performing and racing back-to-back is nothing new for Doucet. In December, he performed in San Francisco and road tripped to Sacramento after a late-night show to run a 2:44 personal best at the California International Marathon.

Doucet is coached by the Mile2Marathon crew which includes Olympian Dylan Wykes and past IAAF World Championship competitor Rob Watson. Whitehorse is expected to release its latest album, Panther in the Dollhouse, in early July.

If you want to hear more from Doucet, he appeared on Canadian Running‘s most recent episode of the Shakeout Podcast.
