New Avengers Super Heroes half-marathon announced

Super Heroes half-marathon

RunDisney has announced it will be adding a new event to its growing list of races.

The company will be hosting the inaugural Avengers Super Heroes half-marathon weekend from Nov. 14-16 at their Disneyland resort in Anaheim, Calif. The weekend, in addition to the half-marathon, will host a kids race and a 5K. The routes will follow a new course through the resort than the other two half-marathons already hosted there.

The new event brings the total number of race weekends the organizations hosts to eight. Disney is becoming one of the largest race organizers in the United States.

Registration for the new event will open March 25.

In other RunDisney news, Kim Smith, a three-time Olympian for New Zealand who lives in Providence, R.I., smashed the course record at the Princess half-marathon in Disney World, Orlando, Fla., by running 1:11:49 over the weekend. Smith represented New Zealand in the 5K in 2004, 10K in 2008 and marathon in 2012 at the Olympics.

The event attracted 25,000 runners.
