Photos: The force was strong at the Star Wars Dark Side race weekend
The inaugural Star Wars Dark Side race weekend was held April 14-17 and featured some incredible Star Wars-themed race gear and medals.
The force was strong for runners at the Star Wars Half-Marathon – The Dark Side race on Sunday. And the one thing that Disney races are guaranteed to do are offer some amazing race-themed gear and prizes.
The inaugural event produced some great social media posts as runners dressed in themed attire and were awarded finishers medals upon race completion. From Stormtroopers to Darth Vader, the theme of the event was the dark side of the force, the enemy of the Jedi in the Star Wars series.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the latest film release in the series.
Jason Ryf won the men’s half-marathon in 1:13:39 and Katie Mcgrath won the women’s race in 1:24:05. Running the 10K, which took place on Saturday, and Sunday’s half-marathon is known as the Darkside challenge. The event, which spanned April 14-17, also hosted a 5K.

This particular Stormtrooper team had matching outfits and showed off the themed race numbers. Squad goals.

The race was so early in the morning that the sun had not yet risen. The fireworks, however, brightened things up.
The amount of Star Wars puns used on social media was also very high.

Nothing stood in the way of runners at the Star Wars Dark Side race on Sunday.
The race seems worth it for the post-race medal alone.

Race apparel was pretty great too.
Stormtroopers, characters in the Star Wars series and servant of the empire, greeted runners at the finish line at Sunday morning’s race.

The event was held at Epcot Resort in Orlando on Sunday morning at 5 a.m.

In addition to the recent Star Wars Half-Marathon – The Dark Side event, Disney hosts eight other events throughout the year in Florida, California and France. At the Walt Disney marathon weekend in January, New Balance unveiled its Disney-themed Dumbo shoes, just one of many branded products at the various events held throughout the year.
