Toronto’s oldest, continuously-held road race, the Race Roster Spring Run-Off took place this morning at High Park with Rachel Hannah and Robert Winslow coming away with 8K victories. The event features the “Kill the Hill” challenge with prizes going to those who can cover the hill the fastest.

Saturday morning’s race was the second event in Canada Running Series’ 2016 calendar following the Modo Spring Run-Off in Vancouver on March 20. The Canada Running Series (CRS) is an annual circuit of road races across Canada featuring some of the nation’s top events and runners.

A Guelph, Ont. resident, Winslow was well clear of the field on Saturday winning by more 30 seconds. As can be seen in the below Instagram video, it appears that he crosses the line and celebrates with a stroke of his beard. Standout Westview Centennial high schooler Ehab El-Sandali had a strong performance to finish second and Around the Bay 5K winner Josh Bolton was third.

Notable features of the historic event include a pancake breakfast, a bagpiper who leads runners to the start line, and maple syrup prizing, perfect for those pancakes.

The mid-race hill was a popular spot on the course for spectators who were out early on Saturday cheering on runners with some homemade motivational signs. Awards were given to those who were able to complete the hill in the least amount of time. Pidhoresky and El-Sandali were the fastest 8K runners to conquer the hill.
