The event has been rescheduled for Nov. 13, 2022, in Yangzhou. The news adds to a list of major sporting events that have been cancelled or postponed in Asia over the next six months. The Chinese government has imposed a zero-COVID policy to lower case numbers before the start of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games set to take place in Beijing this February. Among the recent cancellations are two big-city marathons in Beijing and Wuhan.

The previous World Half Marathon Championships were held in Gdynia, Poland in October 2020. Many countries opted out of sending athletes to this competition during the middle of the pandemic. Athletics Canada, for example, did not send a team. The U.S., Australia, Japan and New Zealand also opted out of sending athletes.
The news comes days after the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships were postponed from the original date of Feb. 11, 2022. They have now been pushed back to Nov. 2022. This event is to be held in Chang Mai, Thailand. Canada’s team was selected last weekend at the Canadian Vertical Mountain Running Championships in Quebec.
