One of Toronto’s most beloved races, the Tannenbaum 10K, is returning in on Dec. 3 with a new look. BlackToe Running has taken over the reins from the Toronto Beaches Running Club, and while there will be a few changes, runners can expect the same fun community spirit they have come to know and love about the event.

The BlackToe Holiday 10K

The most obvious change for this year’s event is the name. Now calling it the BlackToe Holiday 10K, race organizers chose this new name so that everyone in the community could feel connected to the race, regardless of which holiday they celebrate.

Since this is often the last race of the year for many local runners, the goal is to have fun and celebrate everyone’s running accomplishments over the past year. “This is a race that runners have always enjoyed as a community end-of-season event where they could lace up and have some fun,” says race organizer and BlackToe Running co-founder Mike Anderson. “This is a celebration of the 2023 running year for many participants, so we want to make sure we bring that vibe.”

Running for a cause

One thing that hasn’t changed is the event’s charity partner. Since its beginnings, the race has supported Centre 55, a non-profit organization in Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood that provides facilities, programs and social services to facilitate community development and strengthen the Beaches community.

“Centre 55 is the charity that was always the beneficiary of this race, and we wanted to continue to support them,” says Anderson. “The money raised goes to provide meals and gifts to families in need during the holiday season, and the Centre also does so many other great things in the local community. “

Their goal is to raise $25,000 for the Centre, and they are already 70 per cent of the way there. To bolster their fundraising efforts, BlackToe Running is offering gift cards to the store for anyone who raises more than $50, and even more great incentives for anyone who raises over $500. The top fundraiser gets an amazing prize pack from Fairmont Hotels that includes five nights in one of their Gold Suites.

The race is shaping up to be a fantastic community event that no Toronto-area runner will want to miss–and it’s already more than 90 per cent sold out, so Anderson encourages anyone who is interested in participating not to wait to sign up.
