Runners can now express themselves on Strava with the use of emojis in titles, activity descriptions and comments, according to multiple reports.

Runners who previously wanted to add a bit of flair to their run(s) can breathe a sigh of relief as the social media platform was not capable of displaying emojis in the past. Strava is a way to keep tabs on your training as it takes GPS and other run data and displays it on a user-friendly interface.

The small digital icons are used to express ideas and emotions in millions of electronic communications sent daily. There are 1,851 emojis according to the Unicode Consortium, which regulates the image-based communication.

Users of Strava can comment on the activities of people they follow as well as incorporate the visuals into their activity names. A Sunday long run, for example, may be best described with a ‘tired face’ emoji or, if it’s fast-paced, a fire emoji.

In 2016, Apple introduced an expanded collection with their iOS 10 update which included a female runner emoji, which American Olympian Molly Huddle first recommended.
