According to the BBC Amharic, the couple had an argument about money, which resulted in Tamru being stabbed in his apartment in the village of Sendafa, Ethiopia.
Tamru and Sado were reportedly together for eight years before his death. The police are still looking for one of Sado’s brothers, who assisted in the murder and escaped on the night of the crime.
Sado, 27, represented her country at the 2015 and 2017 world championships and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She made the semi-finals in the women’s 1,500m at both world championships and finished ninth in the Olympic final.
The three-time national champion over 1,500m had recently moved up to the marathon, placing third at the 2022 Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris in 2:23:16.
Her marathon best of 2:21:03 came from her debut at the 2019 TCS Amsterdam Marathon, where she finished fourth.
