The global governing body for athletics unveiled a new name and brand identity at the 217th IAAF Council meeting in Monaco today. According to a report on ABC news, the organization will be known by its new name, World Athletics, in October, after this year’s world championships in Doha.

The IAAF, which stands for International Association of Athletics Federations, was founded in 1912 as the International Amateur Athletic Federation. The name was changed in 2001 to reflect the professional status of many athletes.
