On Tuesday, Norweigan track star Jakob Ingebrigtsen and his wife Elisabeth Asserson Ingebrigtsen welcomed a new member to their famously fast family—baby Filippa. “Say hello to the newest member of the Asserson Ingebrigtsen family! Filippa, born 25.06.2024,” Ingebrigtsen posted on social media.

“Everything is perfect with both mom and daughter. We are very proud,” Ingebrigtsen added. The couple announced Elisabeth’s pregnancy in June, sharing a photo of Ingebrigtsen holding up a tiny racing speed suit. The longtime couple bought a new house in Sandes, Norway, and got married in September 2023; their love story began when they were just 16, and Ingebrigtsen popped the question in 2021. Their wedding had an American-style flair, featuring 10 attendants, with Ingebrigtsen’s brothers Henrik, Filip and Kristoffer serving as groomsmen.

In May, Elisabeth accompanied Ingebrigtsen to the Bislett Games in Olslo, Norway. “…extra nice to be there as moral support and cheerleader one last time before we get a new cheerleader member,” she shared on social media.

Ingbrigtsen’s life has not only been busy on the family front—early in June, 23-year-old Ingebrigtsen became the most decorated athlete in European Championship history when he won the men’s 1,500m with a championship record of 3:31.95. This marks his third consecutive European 1,500m title.

Earlier in the championships, Ingebrigtsen also won gold in the men’s 5,000m event. This is the third time he has achieved the 1,500m/5,000m double at the European Championships, having previously done so in Munich in 2022 and Berlin in 2018.

Fans are eagerly anticipating a showdown between Ingebrigtsen and rival 1,500m world champion Josh Kerr at the Paris Olympics in August. Kerr was absent from the 2024 European Championship after deciding to focus on the British Olympic trials and the Olympics in Paris; he is the only man to beat Ingebrigtsen twice, besting him in the Bowerman Mile at the Eugene Diamond League in Oregon earlier in the season and at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest.
