Mbappé’s running speed a factor in France World Cup win
19-year-old goal-scorer for France displays astonishing pace on the field
Kylian Mbappé’s running speed is being touted as a major contributing factor in France’s success at this year’s World Cup. Football fans the world over are also marvelling at the 19-year-old French forward’s control of the ball and his maturity, but mostly his astonishing speed, after France’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in Sunday’s final. Mbappé scored four goals over seven games in this World Cup and was named best young player of the tournament.

Mbappe's speed is insane. I'd love to see him in a race with Charlie Adam. He'd lap him in a 100m sprint. #WorldCupFinal

Back in December 2017, in a story entitled “Kylian Mbappé Records Frightening Speed Statistics in Paris Saint-Germain’s Win Over Lille,” Sports Illustrated reported that Mbappé reached 44.7 kph in a recent game, and that his average speed during the same game was 36 kph. The article helpfully pointed out that this was “only slightly lower” than Usain Bolt’s top speed in the 100m.
