New York pair give runners appropriately named marathon-themed bar
Along the New York City Marathon course, runners have spotted an appropriately-named marathon-themed bar. Now there's a place to celebrate a race well run!
Running as one of the participants in the New York City Marathon is a fulfilling running experience to say the least. The race takes runners on a tour of the five boroughs in one of the busiest cities in the entire world. Runners get to experience 42.2 kilometres of New York as they run through its vastly different neighbourhoods. Not only is a great way to experience such a vibrant city, it’s also the biggest marathon in the world. This year, more than 50,000 runners showed up to take part.
While there’s many things to see and experience along the route, there’s one particular little gem that runners should take note of. Just before hitting the water station at mile 17, runners should keep an eye out for a running-theme bar of the same name. Placed at about 16.9 miles into the race is Mile 17– a trendy-looking bar that’s sure to draw runners.
There has been a longstanding tradition among runners to enjoy a post-race beer after a marathon and cheers to a race well done. For many runners, a pint of cold beer goes hand-in-hand with running culture. Mile 17, which opened just over a year ago, gives runners that. Taking a quick look at the menu, one will see pub food, standard fare like fish ‘n chips, steak, seafoods, soups and beer.
The joint was opened up by a New York pair Ed O’Brien and Dennis McCoobey. When opening the location, they figured that the New York City Marathon would be one of the busiest times of year. They figured they would add to the novelty of race day by making the pub marathon-themed.
The New York City Marathon ran on Nov. 6 with Canadian Lanni Marchant being the fastest runner from the country in New York. She ran 2:33.50 for a seventh place finish.
