Less than a week after a gunman killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., a run in honour of the victims was held.

The community run was named ‘Parkland’s Run 4 Beigel And The Other 16 Victims.’ One of the 17 people shot and killed was Scott Beigel, a geography teacher and the school’s cross-country coach. The shooter was charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.

According to CNN, more than 800 students, teachers and community members ran in honour of Beigel, who was shot and killed while trying to close the classroom door after corralling students away from the hall, and 16 others.

According to the Sun Sentinel, the run consisted of 17 laps of a small loop, which passed by 17 makeshift crosses to honour the fallen. The Sun Sentinel reports that there were “thousands” who participated in the run.
