U.S. Olympian Lolo Jones appears in Las Vegas magic show

Over the weekend, former U.S. Olympic hurdler Lolo Jones made a celebrity appearance in the Las Vegas show Magic With the Stars, which involves celebrities in some elaborate illusions starring famous magician Criss Angel.

In each episode, two celebrities train with professional magicians, competing to create a show-stopping series of magic performances. The celebrities are assigned to master three categories of magic, which they must perform in front of a team of judges led by Angel and a live audience.

Jones competed against famous 90s child star Frankie Muniz from Malcolm in the Middle and Agent Cody Banks. The two had to design their stunts around the stage illusion “Metamorphosis,” which involves one person disappearing and another appearing.

In an interview with Fansided, Jones stressed the importance of athletes taking advantage of these opportunities to market themselves outside the world of sports. “Not only are these opportunities a self-promotion benefit, but it’s a real opportunity to find joy in competition in front of a live crowd,” said Jones.

For over a decade, Jones competed at the highest level in both track and field and bobsledding, winning world championships in both. At 40, she has yet to retire from the sport and continues to run speedy times on the track, clocking 13.71 seconds over the 100m hurdles in July.

Jones was introduced to bobsledding after a disappointing 2008 Olympics, where she failed to medal after going into the event as the favourite. In 2014, Jones made the U.S. national bobsled team for the Sochi Olympics, where she wound up 11th.

This was not Jones’s first appearance on reality TV. She has also appeared on Big Brother and Dancing With The Stars.

Her episode of Criss Angel’s Magic With the Stars aired on Nov. 5 on Hulu but can be streamed online or via the CW Network using a VPN.
