Alysia Montaño wins 800m less than a year after baby

Last year, she ran this meet eight months pregnant, finishing last. This year, she was the 800m champion.

Alysia Montaño is giving the term “super mom” a whole different meaning. The track athlete and new mother just won her sixth 800m title over the weekend at the US track and field championships less than a year post-pregnancy.

Montaño ran  1:59:15. That’s her fastest time in the 800m since 2013. Her daughter Linnea was born on August 15 of last year.

“I’ve had a couple ups and downs in the post-postpartum journey,” says Montaño in an interview with Flo Track. “I’m still breast feeding.”

Montaño says her running during pregnancy was spotty and she ran five miles on the day of her delivery.

This time last year, she still competed at the meet. She ran eight months pregnant running a 2:32:13. She finished 24.38 seconds after the second-last finisher.
