The Boston Athletic Association announced on Feb. 10 that they have come to an agreement with LA Roma Films to produce a feature-length documentary about the Boston Marathon. “We know the world’s connection to the Boston Marathon is stronger today than ever,” said Tom Grilk, the BAA executive director. “We look forward to an exciting movie that tells of Boston’s colorful 118-year history and shows the strength of spirit of those who make this race a success.”

Spirit of the Marathon debuted to sold-out crowds at the Chicago International Film Festival in 2007 and was the highest-grossing documentary in 2008. He’s also worked on documentaries about people affected by AIDS riding the California AIDS ride and the transgender community, among other projects.

The new documentary, to be titled Boston, is expected to be released  in 2015.
