Canadian heptathletes Brianne Theisen-Eaton and Jessica Zelinka finished first and second in the women’s heptathlon on Wednesday at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Theisen-Eaton, the Canadian record-holder, won gold with a score of 6597 and Zelinka scored 6270 to win silver. England’s Jessica Taylor finished third with 5826.

In the heptathlon, athletes contest the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin and 800m over the course of two days.

This was not either athlete’s first brush with international success. Theisen-Eaton, who is married to world decathlon record-holder Ashton Eaton, competed at the 2012 Olympics and finished second at last summer’s world championships. Zelinka has been a member of two Olympic teams and two world championship teams over her career, finishing fifth at the 2008 Games. She also won silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

The results come a day after Canadian Damian Warmer won decathlon, the men’s multievent contest.
