A woman named Yvette Liebesman has filed a lawsuit against Competitor Group Inc. for minimum wage violations. Preliminary hearings will begin later this month.

Competitor Group Inc. is the for-profit corporation which runs the Rock ‘n’ Roll race series. Liesman filed the lawsuit after working several races in 2012 and 2013. She says she should be paid since they are a for-profit corporation. Minimum wage ranges from $7.90 to $9.50 in the states which host these races.

Initially, Competitor Group said her claims are baseless; it’s the norm for big races to host a slew of unpaid volunteers. They tried to dismiss the lawsuit but U.S. Judge Ronnie White denied this attempt. Liebesman will appear in court as the plaintiff however she will also represent “those similarly situated.”

Now, Competitor Group is asking for the trial to be delayed so the corporation can have proper time to prepare.
