With fall sneaking up, earlier evenings are slowly swallowing up more and more of the daylight, some races have begun capitalizing on a a fad which has already taken hold in Britain and the United States. Night runs, with bright lights and loud music, start up in the evening and run into the night, usually with an after party.

Different hosts are popping up across Canada, hosting glow and night runs that can feature lasers, DJs and atmospheres more akin to a night club than your usual race corral, the races are often held on Friday or Saturday nights during the fall and can run late into the night.

One of the new-to-Canada options is the Electro Dash, already popular across the United States with a few races in the U.K., the 5K event starts at popular destinations in major cities, such as Toronto’s Canada’s Wonderland theme park and Calgary’s Olympic Park, but other hosts exist also, including the Energizer Night Race, held across the country. South of the border, many American cities host a Color Rave 5K.

Capitalizing on the booming participation in non-traditional running races, such as obstacle races and colour runs, these events market themselves to younger demographics who are often less interested in the usual Sunday morning races that road running has generally stuck with, though the attractions they offer aren’t inconsistent with where many races have been moving anyways. The Rock ‘n’ Roll race series has had huge success giving runners post-race attractions and events along the route for runners.
