Marathon events set growth records

Despite a relatively small field of 900 full-marathoners, an incredible 13,190 runners entered in the 30th anniversary of the Manitoba Marathon races on June 15, including about 4,000 in the half-marathon. Canadian Running featured Winnipeg as a running destination in our last issue, and the turnout for this event offered further proof that Manitobans are crazy for road racing. For the ninth year in the row, the Manitoba Marathon set a record for the number of entries in its five events, the Manitoba Lotteries Marathon, the Intrepid Dezine Half-Marathon, the Toyota Never Quit Marathon Relay, the Free Press Walk and the Mini-Mites Fun Run for kids.

The Ottawa Race Weekend also celebrated another growth streak, with its 30,000 participants pushing it above the previous year’s tally for the 13th straight year.
