Maritime Race Weekend opens registration

Registration for the Maritime Race Weekend on Sept. 12-13  opened today.

The pirate-themed weekend has become a popular event in the Halifax area and hosts a 5K on Friday evening as well as Saturday morning. The event also runs a 10K, half-marathon, and marathon on Saturday.

There will be “local bands playing east coast music directly following the sunset run, plus there is free beer and some spectacular surprises planned too,” said Michelle Kempton, the race director.

This will be the third year of the event. It sold out in its first two years by mid-summer.

The race weekend has in the past been put on by the United by Running team of Kempton and Stacy Chesnutt, but the two are no longer working together. Hopefully the split will not affect the quality of events, which are now being organized individually by the two with Chesnutt taking over responsibility for the Sole Sisters Women’s Race and Lucky 7 Relay while Kempton is in charge of the Maritime Race Weekend.
