Mo Farah may miss Commonwealth Games
Double Olympic champion Mo Farah may not be fit to race the Commonwealth Games at the end of July.
Farah told the BBC Radio 5 on Monday that he was unsure if he would be able to compete in the Glasgow, Scotland, event.
“Hopefully I should be good. I have missed a bit of training, but we’ll make a decision further down the line,” the runner said.
“I’m just saying where I am right now. My aim is to compete in both events, but at the same time I’m getting back into training.”
Farah was scheduled to race at Hampden Park in Glasgow at a Diamond League meet over the weekend but pulled out of that race because of illness. The stadium is the same one he would race in at the end of the month, if fit. He has been told he can resume training by team doctors but is unsure if he will be ready to race.
The Briton raced his first marathon earlier this year at the London Marathon. With 2014 being an off-year from major world and Olympic championships and his participation in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games originally up in the air, he took the spring to train and race the marathon. He committed to racing at the Commonwealth Games, if healthy, last month.
The 5,000m men’s final is scheduled for Sunday, July 27, and the 10,000m is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 1.
