A new skyrunning series has been announced in Canada. The series, hosted by the International Skyrunning Federation, will make Canada the ninth country to have it’s own skyrunning national series.

Race director for the series is Adam Campbell, an accomplished Canadian ultrarunner and skyrunner.

“The technicality, aesthetic beauty and challenging nature of the course will appeal to elite and recreational athletes looking for a unique mountain challenge,” said Campbell. “The events in the series will have a distinctly Canadian flare and will showcase some of the best terrain the country has to offer. I have big ambitions for this series in coming years and I hope to change the national perspective on how we view mountain sport.”

The series of races will be comprised of nine races  across four events in Quebec and British Columbia. There will be four sky races, three ultra races and two vertical races.

The series kicks off in June at Mont Albert, Que., with a vertical kilometre race on the 27th and a 100K ultramarathon on the 28th. There will also be a 22K race on the 28th. On the last day of the weekend will be a 42K Skymarathon on Mont Jacques-Cartier.

Two other races will be in Mont Sainte-Anne, Que., and Revelstoke, B.C., both on July 12. There is also a planned vertical kilometre race in North Vancouver for a date and location to be announced. The series wraps up in Squamish with 50K and 23K races on August 16 and 17.
