New service, Blue Trailer, to offer portable storage for runners’ belongings at races

Molly MacDonald had so many of her shirts and hats stolen at running races that she decided to do something about it. The Boston-area marketing professional founded Blue Trailer, a service providing mobile storage lockers for races.

“It all started on a cold, wet September day with a regular, sort-of old black rain jacket,” Blue Trailer says on its website. MacDonald was about to run a 5K race. Dark skies threatened rain, so she grabbed her trusty black rain jacket and headed to the start line. Just before the race, she hid the jacket in a genius spot. “Luckily, the rain stopped by the end of the race. Unluckily, that hiding spot was not as genius as originally thought. The jacket was gone. Sad!”

The company plans to launch in March 2014, starting with service at the Black Cat 10- and 20-milers in Salem, Mass., and then branching out from there. MacDonald says Blue Trailer has booked 20 races and aims to hit 100 events in its first year of operations.
