One of the largest 10K races in Canada went off without a hitch on Mother’s Day after last year saw the event struggle with finish line mismanagement and problems at water stations.

The Sporting Life 10K had 27,000 entrants run down Toronto’s Yonge Street on a beautiful Sunday Morning, making it the third-largest running event in Canada.

The race this year was directed by Toronto Women’s Run Series race director Cory Freedman who brought on plenty more volunteers to make sure the event could bounce back after last year’s bumps.

The event raised over $2 million for Camp Oochigeas, a camp for children with cancer.

Berhanu Degefa won the men’s race with a quick 29:41 and Sasha Gollish won the women’s race in 34:19.

In elite news, The Prague Marathon saw Patrick Terer win in a quick, but not blazing 2:08:07, against a field that included the second-fastest marathoner ever, Moses Mosop, who disappointed spectators by racing to a 2:20:37 12th place finish.

“My body felt empty from the start,” said Mosop. “Not enough speed work was done due to an injury and I will have a new start after some rest.”

Across Canada there were many other Mother’s Day runs, from Edmonton and Calgary’s Sport Chek Mother’s Day run and walk, and the Chocolate Race in St. Catharines, Ont.
