Parapan Am update: Married couple medals on the track

The Canadian Parapan Am team had another successful day on the track. Their efforts help solidify the Canadian team in a solid second overall with 140 medals as the end of the Games approaches. Brazil is in the lead with 210 medals and the U.S.A. is in third with 110 medals in total.

Kyle Whitehouse won gold in T38 200m. This was his second medal of the Games and also a Games record, with a time of 23.66.

Brent Lakatos won his second gold medal of the Games in the T53 800m. In Friday’s 400m, he’ll attempt to achieve a gold medal hat trick.

Alexandre Dupont won gold in the T54 800m with a time of 1:40.67, just edging out fellow Canadian, Josh Cassidy. The initial race was rocked by a crash, which forced a rerun.

“I’m happy with my race,” said Dupont.  “I think showed I’m number-one here in this event.”

Dupont’s wife, Ilana Dupont, took to the podium twice yesterday, with a silver in the T53 200m and a bronze in the T53 800m. She experienced one of her podium moments with teammate Jessica Frotten, who took the bronze in the 200m.

“I’m really excited to be on the podium with Jessica,” said Dupont. “She’s someone I’ve seen improve over the years and I was really hoping we could share a moment like this.”
