Pocket Full of Sunshine

It's days like today that really test my desire to run. I'm happy to report that the fog this morning only dampened my hair and clothes... but did not effect my spirits or desire to run my 5km.

Photo taken this morning just before my run on the boardwalk. Normally I see the ocean, an island with deer grazing, elderly walking their dogs, and fishermans’ boats going up and down the channel… but today it was just me and the fog!

I find it really easy to run on sunny days but on days like today… you have to really want it to muster up the endurance to keep going. The damp air makes it hard to breath and mist is cold (even in the summer).

Normally the boardwalk is quite busy when I run… but this morning when I ran I had the boardwalk to myself… solitude to the maximum.

The irony when the song Pocketful of Sunshine played on my iPod put a smile on my face. Honestly, I can’t think of a better song for the last kilometre of my run in the fog. Normally when I listen to that song while running the sun is beating down on me… but today in the fog I listened to the lyrics and it had a whole new message for me. The lyrics are pretty deep and actually quite a message for runners… as so many of us get “taken away to a secret place” and experience a “sweet escape” while running… I know that I do anyway.
