Race broadcasts are catching up with modern technology.

Known to be one of the in the world, the Ras Al Khaimah half-marathon – to to many as simply RAK – didn’t see any particularly impressive men’s results this year, but race organizers broadcast the race with some impressive drone shots, a technology being rapidly adopted in a breadth of industries.

Sports broadcasting has seen a quick rise in the use of drones, though local and provincial jurisdictions have been outlawing their use in many areas for different reasons.

The drone provided beautiful shots of the runners and gave broadcasters a larger range of angles to film from.

Mary Keitany continued her dominance from 2014, when she didn’t lose a race after returning from having a child, racing to a 1:06:03, among the fastest half-marathons ever run. Keitany broke the Ottawa 10K record last spring.

Though the men’s race was one in a relatively moderate 1:00:05, the finish was tight, the top four runners within five seconds of each other. Ethiopia’s Mosinet Geremew won the final sprint.
