Here runs the bride: The running wedding dress

Many an excited bride has seemed to run down the aisle.

The athletic apparel company, Oiselle, has just made it easier to literally do just that. And the aisle may be a trail, or a waterfront path, or your local 5K. That’s right, we have arrived at the day of the running wedding dress.

The Oiselle dress falls just above the knee, made of technical fabric and has a mesh back that makes it appropriate for jogging to the altar. There is a special pocket for stowing the ring. The back buttons are made of pearls and the skirt has a light tulle train.

Oiselle has also developed a mock tux tech shirt for grooms and groomsmen and offers three different shades of bridesmaids’ dresses. The whole wedding party can run a few Ks together before a main event.

At only $140, it is probably the most reasonably priced wedding dress you’ll find out there as well.

When I first heard about Oiselle’s running wedding dress, I laughed and thought to myself, “that’s ridiculous!” And then I took another moment to think about it.

Just because something doesn’t conform to what we might generally think of as a traditional wedding doesn’t mean that it isn’t equally meaningful – and it may well be more memorable.

The more I thought about it, the less crazy of an idea I decided this was for Oiselle. Many individuals that consider running to be an important activity in their life, end up marrying another person that feels the same way. Especially around Valentine’s Day, stories abound around couples that have met on trails, at races or through running clubs. At most marathons, there is at least one proposal that occurs on the start line.

The fact of the matter is that if running is an activity that matters a lot to you and your partner, or played a role in your meeting, it makes sense to honour that sport on your wedding day.
